Take This Waltz would have been a far better movie if the character of Daniel had been in any way desirable. He wore capri fucking pants… nobody in the history of time has fallen in love with someone wearing capri pants. As a viewer the film is constructed in such a way that it is very difficult to sympathise with Margot’s conflicts. And when you don’t, the whole thing becomes sort of pointless. Thought the opening shot of her baking was splendid though, as is the dialogue-less spin on the fairground ride. Williams and Kirby really earn their money in that moment. It’s not nearly enough to make up for the rather uninspiring and confusing tale at the heart of the movie. Capri pants?! Come on…
